The Athens International Children’s Film Festival is collaborating for the second consecutive year with the Cinekid Festival (Netherlands), the largest children’s film festival in Europe, in one of the largest international script development programs for children’s content, the Cinekid Script LAB.

Cinekid Script LAB is a six-month script-training programme for writers with a children’s film or series project. The training takes place during Cinekid for Professionals in October, and the Berlinale the following February.
The Athens International Children’s Film Festival offers a full scholarship for the selected Greek project. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 10, 2024.

The scripts will be evaluated by a three-member committee, consisting of:
Jenny Vafakou – Program Director of the General Directorate Program of ERT
Angeliki Darlasi – Writer, Playwright, Screenwriter, and Creative Writing Instructor
Alexandros Rellos – Director, Screenwriter

Alexandros Rellos, who received the scholarship last year with the screenplay project “CHERRY & ZUCCHINI” underlines:

My experience was immensely gratifying, not only because I believe my project has soared to greater heights but also due to the tailored nature of the experience. It is quite often that such workshops are procedural and/or mentors are not inclined to delve into and see each project and its needs separately. Fortunately, this is not the case with Cinekid; quite the opposite. I didn’t realize how necessary this experience was for me as a screenwriter until I lived it.”

The Athens International Children’s Film Festival has taken significant initiatives for the development, reinforcement, and global outreach of audiovisual content production for children within Greece.Initiatives include producing short films for teenagers as part of Eleusis Cultural Capital of Europe, hosting the ATHICFF for Professionals meeting last November, and organizing the International Screenplay Development Program Kids Kino Lab (Warsaw Kids Film Forum).

The Cinekid Script LAB Screenplay Development Competition is supported by the Greek Film Center.
